How it all began
With humble beginnings Steve Tankersley a Texas based session guitarist working primarily on radio jingles and other commercial recordings modified his focus to professional songwriting.
It all began by taking on the role of self funding executive producer and recording engineer with this entire ongoing studio project. Next, forming a writing group of like minded wordsmiths and talented session musicians.
Seeing firsthand the entire recording industry change drastically due to many factors. Including witnessing countless record labels completely gone that historically were in abundance through the 90's.
It was critical with coming to grips that the industry is a completely different world than what was seen in the past. Or maybe best stated, you need to understand where you are if you expect to know where you are going.
That led to what came next.....
Material released under The Wanderlust Vagabonds was originally targeted to established main stream touring artist with the intention of they recording.
Or essentially "Pitch recording sessions" It also explains why several different vocalist are leveraged with many of these recordings. As each song was originally being targeted to specific established touring artist having a similar vocal range and style with each song recorded.
Ultimately there is still a path to market with The Wanderlust Vagabonds essentially acting as a repository for published written and recorded material.
Without spelling out all the negative aspects of the music industry, after several disappointing experiences, song pitching through the typical channels was not producing the desired results.
This ultimately led to forming The Wanderlust Vagabonds as a professional writing and publishing group. Including establishing a Federal Trademark and alignment with BMI Music.
Since first introduced, two full albums and several singles have been released. With more forthcoming in 2026.
